Achille Laugé (1861-1944)

This delicate portrait by Achille Laugé will go under the hammer in Paris a few weeks after being shown at the Fondation de l’Hermitage exhibition in Lausanne.

Found during an inventory carried out for an estate in the Var, this painting takes us on the road to Cailhau in the company of its famous bard, Achille Laugé.

In a few weeks, this portrait has gone from the walls of the Fondation de l'Hermitage in Lausanne to Room 9 of the Hôtel Drouot, where it changed owners for €624,000. It is the portrait of Mademoiselle Jeanjean, the five-year-old girl from Achille Laugé's neighbors in Cailhau, whose two portraits are kept at Orsay.  

Four paintings by Achille Laugé have turned up in Toulouse. Doctor Gaujon owned them all, including this noteworthy still life the artist gave him as a wedding gift – a provenance that will surely have bids blooming.
