"LONGUS - Daphnis and Chloé
Chez Pierre Bouchet à Paris, 1925 - Translation by Messire Jacques Amyot revised by P.-L. Courier and augmented by a preface by M. Eug. Marsan. Ornaments by Sylvain Sauvage woodcut in color with the collaboration of Pierre Bouchet. Magnificent illustrated edition by Sylvain Sauvage, here very much inspired by F.-L. Schmied, whose influence is clear to see. This is one of the illustrator's finest productions. An edition of 160 copies, this one on special arches vellum.
Exceptional binding by Mireille Magnin, daughter of the famous bookbinder Marius Magnin, in full brown and black morocco, with a talking decoration featuring the dove and the ram from illustrations by Sylvain Sauvage, on either side of each board. Smooth spine with vertical gilt-lettered title, gilt roulettes at head and tail, same morocco border with gilt fillets on inside covers, black marbled paper endpapers, original covers retained. In matching bordered slipcase, note a few flaws to the slipcase and minor traces of scotch tape to the inside covers, a superb copy.
In-8, (5) 12pp, 168pp (4)".
