"Gustave ASSIRE - Drawings 1870-1941
A very rare set of 54 original signed watercolors by Gustave Assire. In the field of book illustration, we know of this artist's fine etchings illustrating Mac Orlan's book Images secrètes de Paris, published by Kieffer in 1930. The artist, a pupil of Gustave Moreau, Benjamin Constant and Cormon in particular, is the author of watercolors and paintings of young cabaret girls, prostitutes and others.
Modern wine-red half-chagrin folder and matching bordered slipcase, covering a paper cover containing the entire set laminated on pearly Japon paper pages, in in-4 format.
Excellent condition. There are 39 watercolors of women (elegantes, filles de la nuit, etc.), 3 of men, 2 couples of dancers, 4 amusing views of the July 14, 1912 military parade, 6 landscape views, some located (in Jongkind, Amsterdam, Carpentras, Canal St Martin...)".
