First separate edition of this work, which appeared in Le Diable à Paris and whose text has been slightly modified. First edition of 40 woodcut figures in the text and 20 plates (including the frontispiece) by Gavarni.
This series of burlesque texts centered around two typical bourgeois household figures would be reprinted the same year in the definitive version of Petites misères de la vie conjugale.
Half burgundy basane, smooth spine, fillets. Spine slightly faded, one section a little out of place.
