Pierre DUMONT (1920-1987) Original lithograph signed in the plate and numbered 221/250 lower left Framed piece 70 x 70 cm Pierre Dumont began his career in 1946 as head of the drawing office at Revue Technique Automobile (RTA). He then turned to more graphic work, publishing in the Album du Fanatique de l'Automobile, La Vie de l'Auto, and designing advertisements for Panhard and Rosengart. In addition to his talent as a draughtsman, DUMONT's pen can be found in his reference work "Au temps des Automobilistes" (1965) and "Les Pur-Sang de Molsheim" (1975). This drawing was originally designed for the poster of the 6th Coupes de l'Age d'Or 1970, organized by French motoring pioneers such as Serge Pozolli and Jacques Potherat. This event, celebrating the glory of racing cars from 1925 to 1940, began in 1964 on the Circuit de Rouen-les-Essarts, opening the ACF Grand Prix, before moving to the Montlhéry oval in 1968. This was the first historic classic car race organized by the Association des Amis de l'Histoire de l'Automobile, l'Album du Fanatique de l'Automobile, l'Automobiliste and Moto-Revue. Later, this historic race was revived as the Grand Prix de l'Age d'Or and continues to take place every year. On the other hand, the same idea of promoting pre-war vehicles was taken up again under the name Vintage Montlhéry by Jacques Potherat, before seeing the light of day again in 2011 under the name Vintage Revival Montlhéry, with the same spirit of conviviality and the same passion for mechanics from another era. And while 2024 celebrates the 100th anniversary of the legendary Linas-Montlhéry circuit, it's also an opportunity to pay tribute to those who brought it back to life in the 70s, with this drawing by P. Dumont.
