Ferdinand du Puigaudeau (1864-1930)

Artists Maxime Maufra, Henri Martin and Ferdinand du Puigaudeau all captured the special atmosphere of the seaside and lagoons.

Ferdinand Loyen du Puigaudeau is an unclassifiable artist born in Brittany, a region he loved. He immortalized the world’s beauty without affectation and was guided by an obsession: light.

Thanks to its energetic acquisition policy, Brittany’s Musée de Pont-Aven secured itself 2 zincographies and a signed Gauguin letter at the end of 2020. Now, the museum has managed to get its hands on La lanterne magique by post-impressionist painter Ferdinand du Puigaudeau, purchased with the support of the CIC bank.

Ferdinand Parpan and Georges Jouve both sought purity through sculpture and ceramics.

Sold under the hammer of Tessier Sarrou on Friday at Drouot, the Portrait of Charles Ferdinand Théodore de Vassinhac d'Imécourt, who died in the prime of life during the siege of Dantzig, quintupled its high estimate. The portrait had remained with the descendants of Ferdinand Imécourt's older brother until now.

The National Gallery in London and the Barber Institute of Fine Arts in Birmingham, which have jointly acquired a portrait by Lovis Corinth (1858-1925) of the German physician and historian Ferdinand Mainzer: exhibited alternately between the two institutions, it will first be shown in Birmingham.

Five Old Master paintings were audaciously stolen from the Friedenstein Palace in Gotha, Germany in 1979. Only recovered in September 2019, one of the paintings, “Old Man”, is now suspected to be a genuine Rembrandt, having previously been attributed to his student, Ferdinand Bol.

In 1883, Eugène Boudin told Ferdinand Martin of a trip he was planning to Fécamp. Most likely he stayed since he sold a Bassin de Fécamp in 1884. Estimated at €20,000/30,000, Fishermen Putting Away Their Nets at Étretat is another example of this Norman tropism, offered on April 22 at Drouot by Gros & Delettrez.
