Gustave Caillebotte (1848-1894)

The restoration of Gustave Caillebotte's (1848-1894) estate in Yerres (Essonne) was recently celebrated with the public opening of the Impressionist painter’s family residence.

Les Soleils, Jardin du Petit Gennevilliers (c. 1885) by the Impressionist painter, "a major work in terms of its subject, framing and format," has been bequeathed to the museum. The work has been added to the Daurelle Collection donation, bringing to 14 the number of works by Caillebotte kept at Orsay.

The rare painting, Young Man at His Window (Jeune homme à sa fenêtre) by the French artist Gustave Caillebotte was bought for a record sum by a major American museum during an auction on November 11th in New York.

In 1881, Gustave Caillebotte created a garden on his estate in Petit-Gennevilliers. As this oil on canvas offered at Drouot, the flowers and vegetable garden became the subjects of his paintings.
