Vu Cao Dam (1908-2000)

For this fourteenth chapter of “Indochina, Myths and Realities 1800-1960,” the talented Tran Binh Loc is accompanied by Victor Tardieu, Mai-Thu and Lé Phô while Vu Cao Dam offers a beautiful message of hope.

On Tuesday, October 4, in Room 1 at Drouot, under the hammer of Lynda Trouvé, a sale dedicated to Southeast Asia will feature a painting on silk by Vu Cao Dam (1908-2000).

This sale including works by Vu Cao Dam, Mai-Thu and Lê Quoc Loc featured two of Vietnam’s signature techniques.

A work by Vu Cao Dam (1908-2000) found in an old French collection will again liven up the Vietnamese painting market. The charm still works.

Like a diptych illustrating the hours of the day, this pair of paintings evokes the delicate art of Vu Cao Dam, once again exalting the female figure. A fine example of his 1940s work, they will draw interest from international collectors, starting with those of his homeland.

Continuing its breakthrough in the Asian arts market, the Toulouse auction house achieved great successes, especially thanks to artists Mai-Thu and Vu Cao Dam.

The versatile artist and designer Jean Dunand (1877-1942) was accompanied in the auction waltz by Vu Cao Dam and Lucien Rollin.

Asian art expert Jean Gauchet will head the Arts du Vietnam auction on October 16, offering over 200 articles including rare books, woodcarvings, and more. Among the highlights is a restaurant guestbook containing sketches and signatures by artists such as Vu Cao Dam and Marc Chagall, estimated at €6,000/8,000.

On March 8, Lynda Trouvé will organize the twelfth opus of her sales dedicated to the Indochinese School of Fine Arts. Traveling painters such as Alix Aymé and Jean Bouchaud will tell the story of the French colony, alongside its great representative Vu Cao Dam with a Young Seated Woman in Terracotta (€15,000/20,000).
