H. Vian Aux Têtes de Bélier" chandelier, attributed to H. Vian, France, Circa 1890 France Circa 1890 Gilt bronze, Crystal Height: 80 cm; Diameter: 55 cm Charming Louis XVI-style ormolu, clear and amber crystal chandelier with six arms of light. The central shaft, formed of a succession of cut and faceted crystal balusters, is linked to the light arms by garlands of pearls. The beaded basins are adorned with a ram's head, and the whole is decorated with drops, lozenges and prisms in cut crystal. Biography: Henri Vian, a bronzemaker active in the second half of the 19th century, produced numerous interior ornaments: fireplaces, bronze-mounted vases, chandeliers, balustrades... all of the highest quality. His signature is usually, as here, in cursive letters, with the initial of the first name followed by the patronymic. On late works, only the two initials h.V. appear. The business, located at 5, rue de Thorigny in Paris (the Hôtel Salé, now the Musée Picasso), continued under the management of Madame Vian after her husband's death in 1905.
