Maison Millet Beautiful lantern, attributed to Maison Millet, France, Circa 1890 Crystal, Bronze with double patina Height: 110 cm; Diameter: 30 cm Beautiful lantern in double patina bronze and crystal. The central shaft is engraved with a frieze of Greek foliage centered on a star. The whole is topped by a flared crown decorated with stylized leaves, from which three uprights end in a ceiling light. Biography : Millet T. was founded in Paris in 1853. A highly talented specialist in the reproduction of 18th-century furniture, Millet produced furniture and art bronzes of the highest quality. He was one of the very few cabinetmakers to obtain authorization from the Château de Versailles to make a replica of Queen Marie-Antoinette's famous jewel clamp. An artist of great merit, he won the highest awards, such as the Gold Medal at the 1889 Paris Universal Exhibition, where he exhibited for the first time, and the Grand Prix at the 1900 Universal Exhibition. The photographic archives show Millet's stand at the 1904 World's Fair in Saint-Louis (USA), among views of his workshop and Parisian store. Millet's international reputation was established through its New York branch, "Duryea and Potter", 469 Fifth Avenue, New York. Maison Millet remained in business until 1918.
