Antique Italian painting from the first half of...
Antique Italian painting from the first half of the 17th century. Oil painting on canvas, first canvas, depicting a high quality copy of the Massacre of the Innocents by Jacopo Robusti known as Tintoretto. The artwork is presented as a mirror image of the master's original present in the school of San Rocco in Venice. According to the Gospel story, Herod the Great, King of Judea, ordered the massacre of children with the aim of killing Jesus, of whose birth he had been informed by the Magi who came from the East. An angel warned Joseph in a dream ordering him to flee to Egypt and only after Herod's death did he return to Galilee. Work of excellent pictorial quality characterized by great dynamism and a skilful use of chiaroscuro. 20th century carved and gilded wooden frame, pleasantly decorated, with some signs of aging. Painting that has undergone restoration with partial relining and color recovery in some places (see photo). Overall in good state of conservation. Sight size H 112.5 x W 130 cm. H 126 x W 143 x D 4 cm
