JACQUES LÉONARD MAILLET - ALLEGORIC STATUE IN SOLID SILVER - 19th C. Solid silver ALLEGORIC STATUE representing a goddess in a magnificent draped gown. Base in stained wood. Dimensions: height of statue alone: 58 cm - height of base: 8 cm - total height: 66 cm. Material : 1st quality silver 950/°°°. Weight : 7520 grammes Marked : MINERVE Date : 1866 (dated and signed) Creator: Jacques Léonard MAILLET (1823-1895) Origin: France/Paris BIBLIOGRAPHY: Bronze du XIXe -Page 448 - Edition de l'amateur MAILLET Jacques Léonard ( 1823/1895) First Grand Prix de Rome in 1847, after studying under FEUCHERE and then PRADIER, he spent five years in Rome before making his debut at the Salon in 1853. He worked for several Parisian churches, the Louvre, the Hôtel de Ville and the Opéra. His work, strongly influenced by antique and biblical themes, also includes small terracottas and models for goldsmiths. In 1859, he exhibited one of his major works at the Salon, a plaster Agrippina carrying the ashes of Germanicus, the marble of which was placed in the Parc Monceau in Paris in 1893.
