Refined Italian painting from the second half of the 17th century. Oil artwork on canvas depicting a subject of great charm, Diana's rest. Immersed in a splendid Arcadian landscape we find Diana and her maids asleep. On the left we see a young boy, presumably identifiable with the hunter Actaeon who, according to legend, unknowingly runs into Artemis. The Goddess, famous for his chastity, will punish him by turning him into a deer and her hunting dogs will eventually tear him to pieces. A painting of notable pictorial quality, evident in particular in the creation of the drapery and above all in the complexion and transparencies of Diana's dress. Antique non-coeval frame in carved and gilded wood of great impact, with some signs of aging. Artwork that has undergone restoration with relining, replacement of the frame and restoration of color in some places. It has some small drops in color (see photo), overall in good state of conservation. Sight size H 95 x W 128 cm. H 118 x W 152 x D 5 cm
