17th century FRENCH school, workshop of Guy FRANCOIS. "Judith and Holofernes" and "Panthea". Pair of canvases. 98.5 x 78 cm. Without frame. In the last years of his career, Guy François probably painted a Series of illustrious women, now partly preserved in a private collection, including Zenobia, Panthée, Porcia, Lucrèce, Judith, or Marie Stuart (see B. Saunier, Guy François, caravaggesque painter from Le Puy en Velay, Paris, 2018, pp. 1150-120, reproduced). Panthée is a cover of one of the known paintings in this series. Judith is a new composition. RM
