Paris, Dubochet, 1836-37. 2 volumes in-8, plum calfskin, golden lace frame, wide border with cold fleurons at the corners and romantic cold iron in the center, inside lace, green embossed paper endpapers, smooth spine decorated lengthwise, golden head, covers, untrimmed, bordered cases (Yseux succ. Thierry Simier). First edition of L. Viardot's translation and first printing of the 2 frontispieces on china and the 800 wooden vignettes by TONY JOHANNOT. Copy with the portrait of Don Quixote with moustache. Small repairs to the covers (dated 1838), rare freckles, back evenly faded. SINGULAR, ORNATE BINDINGS OF YSEUX. (Escoffier n°1215).
