D'APRES L'ANTIQUE, PÉRIODE FLAVIENNE (69-96 AP. J.-C.)
ROMAN WOMAN'S BUST OF A ROMAN WOMAN
Old work
Alabaster, brown marble (base)
H. 49 cm, W. 25 cm, D. 25 cm
Missing
This bust shows a Roman woman wearing a hairstyle called "honeycomb" or "diadem".
The latter, using hairpieces or the addition of hair, were very common in the Flavian period (Vespasian, Titus, Domitian, from 69 to 96 AD), both at court and outside. Thus our copy is probably inspired by certain Flavian creations such as the bust of the Empress Domitia kept in the Louvre Museum (fig.1) as well as that of an unknown woman, kept in the Glyptotheque in Munich (fig.2).
