France - XVIIIe siècle HUNTER BUFFET Oak, yellow Verona marble H. 90 cm, W. 131 cm, D. 68 cm Marble restorations The hunting buffet is a variant of the low buffet. It is a rather aristocratic piece of furniture, which appears at the beginning of the 18th century, in Ile de France, in the vestibule of castles or country manor houses. It is often made of oak, covered with a stone or marble top, which is used to lay the game when returning from hunting. The decoration, as can be seen here, is simple, the doors, vigorously moulded, with a curved top drawing a continuous curve, are mounted in a double evolution so that they can be folded down on the sides of the piece of furniture. In the spandrels there are deep, narrow drawers where the knives used to trim hares and ducks were stored.
