AUBUSSON FELLETIN " Jerusalem delivered: Armide before Godefroy de Bouillon". Tapestry from the end of the XVII beginning of the XVIII century, in wool and silk. 310 x 420 cm (Good condition, beautiful polychromy) History: "Histoire de Godefroy de Bouillon La Jérusalem Délivrée" Beautiful tapestry panel from the Royal Manufactures of Aubusson/Felletin, belonging to a series in 4 or 6 pieces on the LIFE of Godefroy de Bouillon (1060 -1100), from the epic poem "La Jérusalem délivrée" written by the Italian LE TASSE (1544-1595) published in 1581. The panel of tapestry presented here the register of Armide in front of Godefroy de Bouillon. Our panel seems to come from the collections of Baron Benoît De Bonvoisin. The theme of "Jerusalem Delivered" was in the limelight throughout the 17th century and even beyond. A six-panel story by Godefroy de Bouillon was present in 1736 in the inventory of the châteaun D'Herbault, then the property of Charles Gaspard Dodun, Marquis D'Herbault, Commander and Grand Treasurer of the King's Orders, Lieutenant General of the Orléans and Controller of Finances. Another four-panel hanging, made by Antoine Bandy De La Chaud, an upholsterer from Felletin mentioned in 1737, was present in the collections of a castle in Normandy before the Second World War.Sources: Les tapisseries d' Aubusson et de Felletinpar D.Chevalier, Edt Solange Thierry.
