French chased iron pendeloque knocker from the 16th century.
It presents successively a raised female face, surmounting a very long bent collar resting on the bust with bare breasts and shoulders flanked by windings. The rest of the body gradually tapers and ends in a tail rolled up on itself. The lower part of the body is first adorned with a double apron of acanthus leaves and then entirely chiselled with scales. At the bottom, a strong ring with multiple mouldings, passed around the tail, surmounts the small flap. The fixing is ensured by a simple folded stem (some wear and corrosion).
Wrought and chiselled iron.
Beautiful French work from the end of the 16th century.
