Jules barbey d'Aurevilly
Le Parnasse contemporain [-The
Thirty-seven Medallions of Contemporary Parnassus]. Le Nain Jaune, October-November 1866.
Manuscript copy of the text by Barbey d'Aurevilly, made by a certain
Alfred Ponthieu [...]: "Copy made for Mr. Alidor Delzant (Jan-Feb 1905)". Rare and clean erasures. Black ink on laid paper. 56 pp. in-4, Bradel covered with old pink moiré brocade with acanthus leaves, brown basane piece with long title in gold on the back (J. Lemale rel.). Minimal wear to the upper headdress.
Nice copy sent to the famous bibliophile and lawyer Alidor Delzant, a great friend of the Goncourt family, as explained in a letter on the last page. He asks Delzant if he could make a copy "of the letter written by Gautier to the President & dated from Russia [...] I could do it one day, or rather one evening, in a corner with a pencil, on my knee, without seeming to touch it! Don't call me a privateer!".
From Alidor Delzant's collection: very beautiful and large ex-libris engraved on copper by Loviot on Japanese paper. It represents Athena with the head of Medusa.
