Paul
Landowski A renowned
sculptor, he is particularly famous for the realization of Christ the Redeemer which adorns the summit of the bay of Rio de Janeiro, Mount Corcovado. He was awarded the Grand Prix de Rome for sculpture in 1900.
From small statuary resulting from private commissions to monumental works in the round, the sculptor oscillates between intimate projects and large-scale creations that adorn public spaces. His work is a permanent research on the history of humanity, paying homage sometimes to the heroes of mythology, sometimes to characters who have marked the contemporary period. As evidenced by the project for a wall of heroes, "the temple of man", four walls were to retrace the history of the human epic: the wall of Prometheus (scholars, artists), the wall of religions, the wall of legends (universal mythology), the wall of hymns (sacred songs of the great religions).
The ensemble was partially presented in 1925 in the Cour des métiers of the International Exhibition of Decorative Arts.
