"Saint Sebastian". Carved and polychromed wooden sculpture. Germany. 15th century.
The saint is depicted, as is customary, tied to the column where he was shot with arrows. Young, muscular and with beautiful features, he wears a loin cloth and a fallen cape which covers his legs and hangs from his shoulder. The mastery in the treatment of the body and the folds in the clothing is outstanding.
