Gil de Siloé’s workshop or circle (Antwerp, Belgium, 1440 - Burgos, 1501)
"Saint Cosmas"
Carved, gilded and polychromed wooden sculpture. The saint’s physiognomy, in our opinion, has references to some of the masculine characters which are part of scenes from the altarpiece in the chapel of Saint Anne in Burgos cathedral, contemporary with the Miraflores Charterhouse, in particular with some of the disciples in the scene of the Last Supper.
97 x 32 x 28 cm.
Provenance:
- Marquis of Valderrey collection. Madrid.
- Private collection Barcelona.
Bibliography: This sculpture was included in the "Exposición Internacional de Barcelona 1929 - 1930. El Arte en España" (International Exhibition of Barcelona 1929 – 1930. Art in Spain) and appears in the catalogue, on page. 144, nº 868.
