ROGER REBOUSSIN (Sargé sur Braye 1881-Paris 1965)
Fascinated by ornithology and hunting since childhood, Roger Reboussin chose to devote himself to drawing and painting, and followed the courses of the animal painter Hermann-Léon. Quickly recognized as a talented artist, he received various prizes during his career and participated in numerous exhibitions, notably those of the Society of Animal Artists between 1912 and 1931. He illustrated many works such as Rudyard Kipling's jungle book or a book on the birds of France, written in collaboration with Marcel Jeanson for which he did 388 gouaches. He also received many official commissions and worked on the decoration of the Lycée Buffon in Paris. He was Master of Drawing at the Museum of Natural History until 1964. After his trips to Africa between 1948 and 1951, he introduced for the first time human figures and landscapes into his work.
