Design chandelier. Early 18th c Drawing, pen and black ink, traces of graphite, 36.6 x 22.1 cm, laid paper with watermark of 1730 (Heawood:620), unsigned. A design for a chandelier, ornamented with angels and religious figures such as the Holy Trinity and the Blessed Virgin on top, and below the Church Fathers. One helmeted allegorical figure carries the insigna of the Jesuit Order. Some numbers on the drawing (1 and 9) are an indication that the drawing may have been accompanied with a written legend or letter explaining the different compartments. This was common for presentation drawings for architecture or metalwork. Probably southern Germany (Bavaria).
