Marcel DUCHAMP. Self-portrait in profile. No place or date [Paris, 1959]. 2 serigraphs on black paper with autograph signature (652 x 500 mm). Famous self-portrait in profile silhouette "torn" by Marcel Duchamp. The collage of this torn paper was made in 1958 in New York. It is reproduced in Robert Lebel's monograph devoted to Marcel Duchamp (Paris, Trianon Press, 1959). A proof was attached to the copies of the first edition: see previous issue. A large-format silkscreen print of 40 copies was made in 1959 for the exhibition at the La Hune gallery: this is a different version, the portrait of the author, signed "Marcel dechiravit" in the plate, is surmounted by the artist's name alone in capital letters in alternating colours, blue and red. It is here in two different colour variations - one with the profile on a red background, the other on a blue background, the alternation of the colours of the letters of the artist's name being reversed. Very beautiful proofs, each bearing Marcel Duchamp's autograph signature (Schwarz, The Complete Works of Marcel Duchamp, 1997, II, no. 565 a: for a print variant).
