A Chinese Late Neolithic Liangzhu jade ritual tool, 3300 - 2200 B.C.
Expressively designed sceptre handle of brownish nephrite with vertical, almost rectangular perforation. On the front side with stylized face. Slight traces of use and minimal chip in the centre. Otherwise intact. Dimensions 12.6 x 9 x 4.1 cm.
Provenance: From a South German collection, acquired in the 1970s from a West German collection. Previously owned by a Christian missionary who acquired the object in central China in the 1930s.
