A rare set of three linked Anglo-Saxon silver dress pins, England, 8th - 9th century
Three silver dress pins in immaculate condition, joined together by means of rhombic links and wire loops. The pins twisted. A large disc at the top of each pin, the front lavishly decorated in the Nordic interlaced style. The middle disc is the largest, adorned with elaborate animal symbols. A repair to the mounting of the central pin, otherwise intact. Length 19.5 - 20.5 cm. Weight 132 g.
Such exquisite craftsmanship and excellent condition are extremely rare. Please refer to the linked dress pins, named "Witham Pins" after the place they were found (British Museum, no. 1858,1116.4).
