Bronze cockerel's pick representing a rooster. Lost wax. Germany, 13th century. H:8,5 L:12,5 cm. A damaged leg. The bird is represented on short legs with particular care taken in the treatment of the feathers on the neck, tail and chest. Its head has an open, pierced beak reminiscent of aquamaniles. This naturalistic representation, very realistic, heralds the beginning of Gothic art and evokes an animal well present in the liturgical literature of the 12th century, notably through the image of the cock of Saint Peter.
