Navy. The ship's log. Gallery of authentic portraits of the members of the French jury and their companions embarked on and for "L'Amérique" 1876, executed on the quarterdeck, redacted, revised and enlarged, after consulting the originals by the editors. [Philadelphia World's Fair]. Paris, Bartholdi, Simonin, Fouret et Cie, 1879. In-8 navy blue percaline from the publisher, gilt title on back and cover, anchor decoration and cold stars. Faux-title illustrated in black, 5 ff. of text (including the title) and 30 plates of colour cartoons. E.A.S. from the publisher Bartholdi. Illustrated album of the French curators of the Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition. Each plate represents a caricature of a member of the French Jury, with an explanatory caption, including a portrait of Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi (1834-1904), sculptor of the Statue of Liberty. He was one of the commissioners of the French delegation to the Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia, where he exhibited several bronze statues. Rare, only three copies are listed in OCLC: Bibliothèque Nationale, New York Public Library and Houghton Library at Harvard. Very lightly rubbed on the bits and corners. Good ex.
