A VERY FINE TRIPTYCH AND CHOSEN HOLY Greek, Cretan, 15th century Greece, Crete, 15th century Tempera on wood panels. Against a golden background. The central panel painted with the Mother of God enthroned flanked by eight prophets with the Crucifixion flanked by angels above within carved arch above. The left door painted with St. George, Spyridon of Corfu and Barnabas. The right door with St. Demetrios and two bishop saints. The reverse of the doors showing the Annunciation and four saints in bishop's attire. Finely executed in great details. Minor areas of retouching. On the reverse old inscriptions. 28.3 x 31 cm (extended). very fine triptych with the crucifixion of christ, the mother of god, prophet and chosen saint greece, crete, 15th century wooden panels, partly carved, painted and gilded. 28.3 x 31 cm (opened). Handwritten inscriptions on verso with old owner inscriptions (?). The outer sides of the wings are separated into two horizontal picture areas. The upper arch-shaped picture section shows the Annunciation of the Mother of God, while the lower section features four episcopal saints or pointed arches. The central section shows the crucifixion of Christ flanked by the archangels Michael and Gabriel in the upper ogival end, below that the Mother of God is enthroned flanked by eight prophets. The inner sides of the wings show the equestrian saints George and Demetrios and four other bishops, including Spiridon and Barnabas. The Mandylion presents the conclusion, lined with carved leaf tendrils. Triptych executed in very fine, detailed painting. Punctual attunements.
