A German silver casserole, 19th century
The slightly bulbous body with a flaring, curved rim, somewhat elevated ring stand, attached to a turned ivory handle. The matching lid with an onion-shaped knob. The ring stand struck with the master's mark "Hossauer Berlin", a bear hallmark, "K" in an oval (Kessner), "C" in an oval (Friedrich) and the mark of fineness "15 Loth" (denoting fine silver content 937.5 g). Diameter 20 cm.
The exquisite craftsmanship suggests that this casserole may have been made for the Prussian court.
