Franz von Lenbach (1836 - 1904) – a personal seal of the Munich portraitist Applies bronze. Eagle with spread wings, protecting its nest on a tree stump. Octagonal seal surface with cut coat of arms of Franz von Lenbach. Overall height 76 mm. Franz von Lenbach was one of the most significant German portraitists. In particular, his roughly 80 portraits of Prince of Bismarck and also those of Emperors William I and II or the Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph I won him a reputation as one of the most famous Munich painters. In 1882, he was raised to nobility with the award of the Order of Merit of the Bavarian Crown. Provenance: ZAM- Centre for Exceptional Museums, Munich. Displayed under inventory no. 48 in the special exhibition "The Seal in My Hand - Petitions of important personalities of the 18th, 19th and early 20th century". (tr. "The seal in my hand - seals belonging to significant personalities of the 18th, 19th and early 20th century") from 23 July to 15 November 2001, including the former exhibition card and a copy of the press release for the exhibition, written by the director of the museum at the time.
