An Italian Renaissance armchair, 15th/19th century Heavily worked chair made of softwood with finely veneered marquetry decor and plastically carved elements. The high backrest is decorated with a semi-sculptured figure of a saint in a three-part frame, flanked by two turned columns. The armrests are worked in the shape of winged sphinxes. The plinth with richly stepped cassettes with fine geometric marquetry decoration in fruit and walnut wood. Dimensions 173 x 75 x 57 cm. Typical work of Italian historicism, in which original parts of a choir stall were used and rearranged. Condition: II -
