The original dated 1776 is kept at the Metropolitan Museum in New York.
The Princess of Montbarrey, the little cousin of the Mailly-Nesle sisters who were intimate with Louis XV, had married on 29 October 1753 the Count of Montbarrey-Saint Maurice, Prince of the Holy Empire and Minister of War under Louis XVI. He was disgraced after a scandal.
