Lodewijk Johannes KLEIJN is a pupil of Andréas Schelfhout (1787-1870). His works are carefully painted and he pays great attention to detail. His paintings deal with both summer and winter landscapes, water is often depicted. He uses a warm and rich palette, his vision of the Dutch countryside is timeless, windmills and canals are present, the waterways are calm and the occasional fisherman gives a feeling of peace and quiet. A much-loved artist during his lifetime, Kleijn exhibited in Amsterdam and The Hague between 1842 and 1894. His works can be found in museums in Amsterdam, Arnhem, Enschede, Otterloo.
