THE MONNIER (Father Guillaume-Antoine). Feasts of the good people of Canon and the Rosières de Briquebec. Avignon, And is sold for the benefit of the Rosières de Briquebec; Paris, the abbot Le Monnier, Prault, Jombert&Cellot, Widow Vallat-la-Chapelle, 1777. In-8, marbled calf, decorated smooth spine, inside roulette wheel, red edges (contemporary binding).
Original edition, decorated with a frontispiece drawn and engraved on copper by Moreau the Younger.
The work ends with the Discourse of a Brown Negro... (7 pp.), which is a vibrant plea against slavery, and a page without figures giving a list of the publications of Abbé Le Monnier (1721-1797).
Handwritten ex-libris of the period on the first guard and on the back of the frontispiece.
Important paper restoration on the last guard. Rubbed hinges, restored jaws.
