CIVIL CODE. - OBSERVATIONS of the Courts of Appeal on the Draft Civil Code. Paris, De l'Imprimerie de la République, Messidor an IX - Brumaire an X [July-November 1801]. 4 volumes in-4, paperback, blue cover, spine label, untrimmed (contemporary binding). Original edition. The first titles of the draft civil code drawn up by Tronchet, Portalis, Bigot-Préameneu and Maleville, which would be adopted in 1804, had been submitted for examination to the country's various courts of appeal and the court of cassation. Of the 29 courts of appeal in France, only 27 responded, with the exception of those of Ajaccio and Pau; note the presence of the courts of Brussels and Liège, cities which were at the time part of the French Republic. Copy as it appeared, bound and untrimmed. A few prickles and slight wetnesses.
