A certificate number 0141, from Mrs. Carmela Rubin, curator of the Rubin Museum in Tel Aviv will be given to the buyer. Reuven Rubin was born in Galati, Romania in 1893. At the age of 19, in 1912, he enrolled at the Betsalel School of Art in Jerusalem and took classes with Boris Schatz; he soon rebelled against pedagogy. The following year, the artist arrived in Paris and enrolled at the School of Fine Arts where he was also disappointed, then turned to the Collarossi Academy. He then travels to Italy thanks to a commercial job which allows him to visit the country's galleries and museums. He then discovers in Switzerland and the painting of Ferdinand Hodler which marks him deeply. In 1920, he managed to go to New York and exhibits his works there (Anderson Gallery) with the help of Alfred Stieglitz. He returned to Israel in 1922 and discovered that his place was now there: "Here in Jerusalem, in Tel Aviv, in Haifa and in Tiberias i feel as if i were reborn", he declared in 1926 in a periodical (Menora). Reuven Rubin was one of the few painters in Israel to exhibit in 1924 at the Tower of David in Jerusalem. His works entered the collections of museums, galleries and important European and American collections. Throughout his life he exhibited in prestigious international galleries in London, New York, Los Angeles and Paris and his art was particularly recognized during his lifetime. This collection of works presented here is the fruit of a friendship between Reuven Rubin and Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Weinberg. Bernard Wei
