Large engraved and gilded copper processional cross. Limoges. France. Circa 1300.
On the front, in the centre, is the engraved silhouette of Christ crucified. There is only one remaining affixed plaque with blue and white champlevé enamels, with Christograms. On the back, where most of the gilding is preserved, there is engraved decoration of Christ Pantocrator, and Tetramorphs at each end of the cross. There are four pieces of gilded copper affixed to the back on which there would have originally been cabochons, which are not preserved. There is engraved decoration with foliage motifs front and back. 62,5 x 45 cm.
