Attributed to Annibale Carracci (Bologna, 1560 - Rome 1609)
"The Assumption of the Virgin Mary"
Ink, sanguine and chalk drawing. Apocryphal signature "Carracci" possibly added by a former collector. 32,5 x 21 cm.
The composition of the drawing has similarities with the Assumption of the Virgin kept in the Museo del Prado. The tomb appears to be a lightly sketched outline of the same one, and so do the columns which appear to the left.
The apostles surrounding the tomb, surprised by not seeing Mary in it, are characterised with great naturalness.
