HIRSCH (Baron Maurice de), a French financier and philanthropist who devoted part of his fortune to allowing the emigration of Jews from Russia, victims of pogroms, mainly to Argentina (1831- 1896). IN MEMORIAM, May 31, 1896, Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.A. 8 p. gd in-4, a work entirely handwritten in applied and varied calligraphy, written in English, in a clasp binding. Enclosed is an engraved portrait by J. M. Pauly, based on a painting by Franz von Lenbach of his wife Clara de Hirsch, (1833-1899), eldest daughter of Senator Jonathan-Raphaël Bischoffsheim, who was a businesswoman, philanthropist. (29 x 24 cm) traces of dirt. Superb and rare testimony in favour of the philanthropist.
