This bookend element consisting of a Buddha face in Khmer style is part of a set of Indochinese-inspired subjects of which we know a decorative plate and a centerpiece (model number 600).
The Angkor temple had been reconstructed for the International Colonial Exhibition that took place in Paris at the Porte Dorée / Bois de Vincennes site from May 6 to November 15, 1931.
The very probable dating of this piece is therefore 1931 / 1932, one of the last produced by Robj / Villeroy Boch Luxembourg.
A "Khmer Buddha Head" ceramic bookend by Robj for Villeroy Boch (Luxembourg) around 1931-1932, with a green and white enamelled cover.
