472-Émile Othon FRIESZ (1879-1949) Young woman in the hammock, circa 1915-19 Oil on mahogany panel Signed lower right 55 x 46 cm Bibliography : Martin-Aittouarès, Catalogue raisonné de l'œuvre peint, volume I, n° 481, reproduced p. 182 (erroneous support). Our painting represents Mount Coudon, known to Friesz, who frequently stayed at Cap Brun, where he later bought a house called Les Jarres. In 1908, the critic Charles Morice wrote: "This young painter, certainly one of the strongest among those of the new generation, meditated with love, with intelligence, on the great lesson of Cézanne. Unlike most of his emulators, it was the old master's attitude to nature itself, not his execution methods that the young man imitated. » Expert: Marc OTTAVI, 12 rue Rossini, 75009 PARIS, France Tel : 01 42 46 41 91 - contact@expertise-ottavi.fr
