Collection of songs copied by a soldier stationed at Ile Nou (New Caledonia).
It is illustrated with a title-frontispiece drawn in ink, graphite and coloured pencil representing a military emblem, and 3 drawings executed in the same manner showing sailing ships: La Loire, le Précurseur and le Navarin. The text contains about 150 poems, some of which evoke the War of 1870, military life, but also walks, sentimental life, etc.. At the end of the notebook is a chapter entitled "Description of New Caledonia. Moeurs et coutumes des Indigènes" (pp. 200-210).
