A Pala black stone fragment of a stele. Northeastern India, Bengal. 12th century Above and to the side of a niche three figures of a Buddha seated in meditation on a double lotus throne, each holding the hands in a different mudra, to the side an apsara with a flower garland. In addition a small Central Indian sandstone head of a deity, 12th/13th century. (2) Height 30.5 cm; width 22.2 cm Provenance Private collection, Aachen, Germany, acquired at Lempertz, Cologne, 13./14.6.1986, lot 745, and thence by descent. With old invoice.
