Small cabinet in red tortoiseshell marquetry on an ivory background, decorated with scrolls of foliage and flowers, the front and sides with diamond-shaped reserves in relief and a rose window in the centre, opening on to a cellar above and two doors revealing five drawers and a window containing a décor of mirrors, marquetry parquet flooring and a gouache scene representing a landscape (accidents) under a closed crown (inlaid restorations). Louis XIII period, circa 1650-1670. H: 25.5 cm, W: 29 cm, D: 18 cm In the second half of the 17th century, a certain number of cabinetmakers from Flanders imported the technique of ivory and red tortoiseshell marquetry, including cabinetmakers Pierre Gole, Jean Armand, or Michel Campe whose production of small cabinetry is still not well known.
