c1928 GILLET HERSTAL 500 BOL D'OR Succession of Mr. X Type : 500 GOLD BOL Frame n° 33970 The first Gillet with a homemade 4-stroke engine, however efficient it was, is aging too quickly in this period of over-creation. The under-frame tank made it outdated, the technique being the saddle tank and the "Druid" fork with two springs (the 1926 model had only one, central one, enclosed in dust-covering tubes). In short, after having produced a racing version with a more leaky tank and two exhaust pipes, we had to put a vehicle on the market that met the tastes of enthusiasts. Once again, Gillet did not miss a beat, with the new motorcycle winning the Bol d'Or two years in a row in the hands of Vroonen, the success being completed by a victory in the sidecar category in 1929. Apart from the fuel tank, the most visible changes were the adoption of the new fork, the retubing of the rocker arm rods, which were protected by aluminium covers, and the installation of 200 mm brakes. Offered in three types (Sport monotube, Super Sport and Competition twin-tube) this motorcycle, following the resounding success of the Bol was a famous hit with buyers. Its race victories make the Gillet Super-Sport one of the easiest to find, at least in the Sport and Super Sport versions (although the competition also sold very well). Numerous race and sprint victories crowned the career of this prestigious motorcycle. We thank Mr François-Marie Dumas for his help concerning the general description of the model. We remind buyers that the entire collection is made up of motorcycles that have remained static in the collector's private museum for several years. A restart is therefore necessary.
