The most beautiful French engine of the fifties
As the Paris Motor Show of October 1948 drew to a close, it was at the very last moment that a 125 cc car had just beaten no less than eight world records at the Montlhéry Autodrome on three occasions, on 4, 10 and 15 October.
This bike is French: it is the 125 cc Jonghi at ACT créée by the engineer, Italian of origin, Guiseppe Remondini. Elle was piloted by his son, Arrigo. Les two last records (100 km at 122.47 km/h average and one hour at 122.897 km/h average) were broken on Arrigo's wedding day. Les weather conditions being favorable, he leaves the wedding hurriedly for the concrete of the ring of Montlhéry!
It all began in the spring of 1947 when the La Courneuve brand, taken over by SATAM, a petrol pump manufacturer, presented a remarkable 125 cc engine, as clean as it was efficient. Au next show, it is mounted in a cycle part with integral suspension and the ignition, by magneto on the record machine, is done by magnetic flywheel and battery. Ce engine requires only sport or racing cams, moreover proposed by the manufacturer, to express its temperament. It will be one of the rare customer competition to be able to counter the Italian cars and many French drivers will be able to use this engine, the most famous being Jean-Pierre Beltoise. Le rider Michel, helped by motorcyclist François, will be the specialist of the Jonghi which, in 1953, was turning at 134 km/h in Montlhéry!
We would like to thank Mr. François-Marie Dumas for his help with the general description of the model.
We remind buyers that the entire collection consists of motorcycles that have remained static in the collector's private museum for several years. A restart is therefore necessary.
