1971 MOTOBECANE 125 S
Succession of Mr. X
Type : 125 S competition-customer
Engine n°10173
The history of the 125 Motobécane racing cars of the 1970s begins with Charles Marandet, who himself had started twenty years earlier as a mechanic with André Bouin, an official Peugeot racer. When he retired, Marandet, after a stint with Matra, produced, with Thierry Tchernine, his own racing motorcycles under their sponsor's Eram label.
Tchernine having left to race for Yamaha, Marandet, with the complicity of Motobécane and Motocyclisme magazine, produces the RAI. The cycle part is close to that of the Eram and the air-cooled engine is derived from Pantin's new two-stroke twin-cylinder engine, which has been heavily reworked to give 25 bhp with a very theoretical speed of 190 km/h. At the same time, Eric Offenstadt is preparing a 125 C competition bike, still based on the Motobécane, but with liquid cooling and a six-speed gearbox, producing about 30 hp at nearly 14,000 rpm.
Motobécane who wants a racing motorcycle presents the 125 S, a "customer competition".
We would like to thank Mr. François-Marie Dumas for his help with the general description of the model.
We remind buyers that the entire collection consists of motorcycles that have remained static in the collector's private museum for several years. A restart is therefore necessary.
